How to Use the Disappearing Target Calculator

This tool helps you decide whether to take the "no penalty miss" (NPM) on a disappearing target or attempt to engage it for extra points. Here's how to use it:

  1. Current High Hit-Factor with NPMs: Enter the current High Hit Factor (HHF) for the stage. This is the hit factor of the shooter who took the NPMs on the disappearing target.
  2. Points gained by shooting disappearing target(s): Enter the total points you would gain by successfully engaging the disappearing target(s). For example, if the target is worth 10 points, enter 10.
  3. Estimated Time to Engage disappearing target(s): Enter the estimated time (in seconds) it would take you to engage the disappearing target(s). Be realistic about your speed and accuracy (transitions + splits).

Once you've entered the values, click Calculate. The tool will compare the points per second gained by engaging the target with the HHF. If the points per second are higher than the HHF, it suggests engaging the target. Otherwise, it suggests taking the no penalty miss.

Example: If the HHF is 5.0, the target is worth 10 points, and it takes you 2 seconds to engage, the points per second would be 5.0 (10 ÷ 2). Since this equals the HHF, it’s a neutral decision, but you might choose to engage if you're confident in your speed and accuracy.
